Lake Arenal Costa Rica is one of the most beautiful locations in central america, perhaps all of latin america, perhaps the world! Volcano Arenal and Volcano Tenorio are two of the three large volcanoes overlooking this high mountain lake in the Tilaran mountain range on the western edge of Guanacaste, Costa Rica. Arenal Volcano is the number one tourist destination in Costa Rica even though the town of Fortuna which sits at the base of Volcano Arenal, is just for tourists, with nothing more than hotels, restaurants and over priced hot springs resorts. A lake of the magnificence of Lake Arenal anywhere else in the modern world would be crowded with noisy boats and congested roads, but lake Arenal is as peaceful as a long walk in the rain forests of Costa Rica.

In 1990 the area was discovered by adventurous travelers who immediately fell in love with the mild climate, green scenery, and peaceful lake waters. Homes and farms were snapped up in the next couple of years by the first round of new foreign residents who believed that the area would take off and become a world class destination. Lake Arenal real estate slowly developed.

It was not until early 2004 when the world realized this mountain jewel was an excellent real estate investment. And so, Lake Arenal real estate sales have taken off in the past couple of years - new residents are everywhere, more cars, more crime, and more girls are noticeable. But so too is better food, more supermarkets, new shops and services, even dentists.

Long term old timer residents were used to monthly trips to San Jose Costa Rica to buy supplies that could not be found in the Arenal and Tilaran area. But since 2003, these trips to San Jose have fallen to one or two per year. In fact there are some residents of lake Arenal who have not left the region in years because they can find all they need here, and prefer the quiet relaxed lifestyle.
