It will come as no surprise to any world traveler that we have our share of psychopaths here in Costa Rica just as any great nation of planet earth does. A psychopath is a person who has no emotional attachment to their own actions. That is, they care not how their actions hurt others. They may, in fact, gain great pleasure from watching the misery they inflict with their lies, schemes, thefts and con games.
When a foreigner arrives in a new country and claims to want to live and adopt the life, the foreigner can invent any history they choose for themselves, and they usually do. Psychopaths, also known as con men, hombre de confiancas, or scumbags, come to town flash some money around, walk with head held high and chest thrust forward, owning the street, exuding success and confidence. Others, usually new comers to town, usually with good hearts, find the friendship appealing and settle down to become fast and close friends with the con, completely unaware that they are about to get screwed.
These psychopaths come in both male and female, thou most of the ones that I know are men. Some of these psychos are able to hide for years before their dark hearts are discovered and they run from town with their tails between their legs and much stolen loot and broken hearts in hand.
One good work will not wipe clean the slate. That is, you are a psycho for life and even though it appears you may have turned a new corner by offering philanthropy back to those you have wronged, it matters not.
It is sad to me that so many amongst us are innocents and ignorant of the scams that are going on all around them all the time. The political scam. The medical scam. The education scan. These are going on world wide and it’s pathetic that we the people continue to support a system that is run by psychopaths. But when these scammers are right here in our town in our midst drinking next to us in a bar holding hands with us at yoga class claiming solidarity and friendship – well it is so sickening to see the innocents accept the lies these scum bags live for.
I am not sure why there are so many psychopaths in this world, but it is a problem that needs to be addressed. Liars and cheats need to be called on their lies and thrown out of town. It may mean that we will need to create a country just for all the scum out there because it would be too expensive to house them in prison for the remainders of their miserable lives.
